The Path Beyond Semen Retention

A few weeks ago, I stumbled on a Semen Retention (SR) community on Reddit and since then, I have been reading the testimonies of its members with great interest.
In case you're not aware, SR is a practice for men that simply consists in never ejaculating. They abstain to release semen for weeks, months, sometimes even years.
Why would they ever do that, you might ask? There is more than one reason.
Here are some benefits, just to name a few:
- Increased vitality. The body becomes overflowing with energy.
- Increased motivation
- Better mood, increased happiness
- Better confidence
- Better overall cognitive faculties
These are the kinds of effects that men who practice SR describe. I have read countless posts of men who attest having turned their life around for the better thanks to this practice, and I find that amazing.
I am glad that so many men are becoming healthier and taking back control of their life.
A few things bother me, though.
First, I have noticed that many SR practitioners who are single don't seem to think about how to integrate SR within a relationship.
Some of them are clearly misogynistic and don't even seem to want any romantic or sexual relationship. It seems like they conflate the negative aspects of sex (dependence, low energy, low willpower) with relationships involving women.
Let me be clear, this doesn't concern the majority, but this is still a mindset that is not uncommon to witness.
The second issue I have noticed—which is the one I want to focus on here—is that most SR practitioners don't have a complete picture of the possibilities that exist in an ejaculation-free life.
We Can Go Further Than Semen Retention
Students of Taoism and Tantra—two ancestral Eastern philosophies—have been practicing semen retention for at least centuries. But they didn't stop there.
In addition to preserving their sexual energy, they also developed powerful techniques meant to circulate sexual energy through the whole body in order to expand their health, vitality, pleasure, and spirituality.
Unfortunately, few members of the SR community seem to be aware of these possibilities. Some of them have sex with their partner without ejaculating and learn to enjoy sex without orgasm, but they're missing out on a much larger realm of possibilities.
So what are these possibilities exactly? Well, prepare to have your mind blown!
Orgasms Without Ejaculation
Although it doesn't seem like it, ejaculation and orgasm are actually two distinct processes. They usually happen together, but it doesn't have to be this way.
The orgasm begins when the "point of no return" is crossed. This is the point where the orgasm process has been triggered and can't be stopped anymore.
Once the orgasmic feeling starts, there is no ejaculation yet. Ejaculation happens a few seconds later, along with involuntary contractions of the pelvic floor muscles.
And after ejaculation comes the refractory period: loss of arousal, loss of erection, loss of energy, sleepiness.
The good news is that it's possible to trigger the orgasm process without triggering the ejaculation process. This is called a "Non-Ejaculatory Orgasm" (NEO) or dry orgasm.
The even better news is that dry orgasms come without a refractory period. Which means you can have multiple dry orgasms during the same session—as many as you want—without losing energy or arousal.
Full-Body Orgasms
That's not all. Through taoist and tantric techniques, one can also learn how to expand the orgasm from the pelvic area to the rest of the body.
It's technically possible to feel pleasure and orgasm in any part of the body. Men who practice these techniques can feel the orgasm in their whole body. It's a type of orgasm that feels more emotional and fulfilling than an orgasm localized in the penis.
Energy Orgasms
For those who want to avoid any sexual activity, for one reason or another, there is something called energy orgasms.
These are orgasms that can happen without physical touch and are not necessarily sexual in nature (although they can be sometimes), they feel more emotional and spiritual.
They can happen in a specific part of the body or in the full body and are triggered through a combination of meditation, breathing, relaxation and visualization.
Whereas dry orgasms are actually not that hard to achieve—it can be done in a few weeks of intense training—energy orgasms require months or years of experience in what is called energy work.
This article is not meant to convert SR practitioners to the practices I mentioned. Rather, it's meant to let them know there is more than one path towards sexual transmutation. I hope it will inspire some of you to go even deeper on this path.
